…and a mouth, and an eye, and a palm pilot. Yes palm pilot. Evolutionists say that humans, adapting for survival in the information-saturated age we now live in, will develop a new appendage that will serve the same purposes as today’s palm pilots, blackberries, cell phones, etc. I believe I have already spotted some missing links. Silly, I know but no more silly than the theory that my great, great, great…..…..great grandfather was a tadpole and that I am an accident. If I am an accident, somebody needs to be written up. OK. Back to the main trail:
I love me some Henry Blackaby. First Bible study I ever took part in was his Experiencing God and it affected me forever and like none since. That was 13 years ago and I still read his stuff whenever I get a chance. I recently sent a few of you, via e-mail, parts of the following quote from Mr. Blackaby:
“Prayer is not difficult to understand. It is difficult to do. When was the last time your heart so grieved for those you were interceding for that your entire body agonized along with your mind and heart? (Heb. 5:7). Most Christians operate on the shallowest levels of prayer, but God wants to take us into the deep levels of intercessory prayer that only a few ever experience. Deep, prolonged intercession is painful. It involves standing before God when everyone else has gone away or sleeps (Luke 22:45). How do we become mature in our prayer life? By praying. There are no shortcuts to prayer. There are no books to read, seminars to attend, or inspirational mottoes to memorize that will transform us into intercessors. Why not accept God's invitation to become an intercessor? Don't allow yourself to become satisfied with shallow, self-centered praying. Stay with God in prayer until He leads you to pray at the level He wants.”
Anyone who truly takes a moment to consider who God is and then considers who we are should feel some conviction over that quote. I know I do. I have calluses on my knees but it is from where my knees rub up under my desk. And then:
Romans 12:4-8- Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
We in the body of Christ can’t all be a mouth (gift of communication) and we can’t all be an eye (gift of discernment) but we can all be a knee (prayer). I have sent out quite a few prayer requests to some friends via e-mail recently. Some of them have been life or death situations but Jesus is not Domino’s, where you call him up and he delivers in 30 minutes or less. I just wanted to write this to remind myself and you, that a prayer request is not a small matter.
